What is the Central Alabama CrimeStoppers?

  • Local, nonprofit, community-based program that uses the public, media, and law enforcement to wage war on crime
  • Designed to help law enforcement fight crime by gathering information from the public
  • CrimeStoppers encourages the public to help them fight crime by offering tipsters anonymity.
  • Unlike other reward programs that only give awards after the accused have been convicted, CrimeStoppers offers rewards to the public only upon the arrest and indictment of anyone charged with a serious felony.
  • CrimeStoppers also offers rewards for information leading to the recovery of stolen property and illegal narcotics.
How Does It Work?
  • The media reenacts a criminal offense broadcast on Television, Newspaper, and Radio
  • The contact number is supplied at the end of each broadcast, and persons having any information on the broadcast are asked to call the contact number (215-STOP)
  • The Montgomery Police monitor the lines, taking in the anonymous calls.
  • Once the case has been solved with the help of the caller, the CrimeStoppers Board will weigh the crime and determine the amount of the award. Then, an anonymous exchange is arranged so the caller can remain anonymous.
